How We Stay Positive When Things Don’t Go Our Way

03.30.20

Couple WaterfallWe are living in such an uncertain period of time that we thought we would share some ways we do what we can to stay positive — even when things don’t go our way.

It can feel very frustrating when things are suddenly not in your control. It can be overwhelming, exhausting and confusing. Because of everything going on right now — people catching coronavirus, most of the U.S. under quarantine orders and people losing their jobs — this is the perfect time for us to reflect on how we can come out of this situation as better versions of ourselves than before..

One of the things that’s helped us clear our minds and see the good in our lives is to speak or write things that we are grateful for everyday. Aside from prayer, this has really helped keep us grounded and centered, especially when things get tough.

Another thing that helps is to look at the things that are in our control. There is still so much we are in control of, our thoughts being one of them. We have the choice to react in a positive way. We are also in control of what we are feeding our bodies, what we do with our time and our overall attitude. Focusing on what we CAN control helps us stay centered.

What we feed our minds, bodies and souls can have a huge effect on the way we feel. We find that when we are eating healthier, stimulating our brains and connecting with God that we feel much more happy and positive about our lives. It’s the small things that can have the most impact on you.

And lastly, when we are feeling down, we try to do something that we love, either alone or together. Think of your hobbies or what you would consider your self-care activity. This can look different for everyone, but some of our favorite activities are working out, playing xbox, reading, writing, watching a show or movie, work on a home project. Whatever your thing may be, do it and see how you feel afterwards.

We know we are living in unprecedented times right now, but we are hopeful that the situation will get better soon. It’s ok to have a tough day or a tough couple days and feel those feelings. The important thing is to get back up and move forward, even if it’s a small step. And if you are feeling this way, know that you are not alone.
