Back in November, we bought a Staub dutch oven from Amazon. Not that we are chefs or anything like that 😉 but there literally are so many things you can make in one that it proves its usefulness. Plus it’s a pretty piece to have in your kitchen.
Dutch ovens can get pricey, especially if you’re looking at a Staub or a Le Creuset. We lucked out and bought this one for $99 during Black Friday/Cyber Week. I’d been eyeing them for awhile and I finally was able to convince Begad that we should get one when it was on sale. Ladies, you’re probably familiar with this scenario 😅 If you are looking for a cheaper alternative, this Lodge one has good reviews.
After sifting through a bunch of recipes, we landed on French Toast as our first thing we would bake in our dutch oven. We are huge brunch fans and French Toast is one thing we almost always order, so we decided to make our own at home.

We got some brioche from Trader Joe’s, some oat milk because lactose-intolerant, eggs and we pretty much already had everything else in the pantry or fridge already. It turned out to be super easy and tasty and it can feed a family of 4-5, or leftovers for two.

DUTCH OVEN FRENCH TOAST
Ingredients
- 1 loaf French Brioche from Trader Joe's
- 4 Eggs
- 1 1/2 cup Oat milk or regular milk
- 2 tablespoons Butter chopped into 4 pieces
- 2 tablespoon Sugar
- 1 tablespoon Maple Syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract
Instructions
-
Spray Dutch oven/ baking pan and preheat oven to 325 degrees.
-
Break apart bread pieces into cubes into the Dutch oven or baking pan you will be using.
-
In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, salt, sugar, vanilla extract and maple syrup.
-
Pour mixture onto bread and lightly mix with a wooden spoon. Let it soak for 10-30 minutes — if you are in a hurry you can skip this part.
-
Add butter chunks on top of the bread and bake uncovered in oven for 40 minutes, or until it looks done.
-
Let it cool before devouring.

You can top the French Toast with maple syrup, whipped cream, fresh berries, nuts — whatever you prefer.
