This Homemade Chai Tea Latte Recipe Will Give You All The Fall Vibes

Chai Tea Latte RecipeThis daylight savings time has got us wanting to hibernate even more than usual. We usually love to go out, even sometimes on weeknights, but lately, we’ve been wanting to stay home more and cozy up in front of a good movie or show.

And other than our pumpkin cravings, if you couldn’t tell we are huge pumpkin fans, we’ve also been craving a spicy fall drink. In the last year/year and a half we discovered our love for chai teas. Iced Classic Chai Tea lattes from Starbucks, in bubble tea form…you name it, we like it. Since it’s one of our favorites, and we don’t want to always leave the house to get one, we made it at home and it tasted even better!

So whether you’re looking to cut your Starbucks expenses or just want a nice fall drink to sit with in front of the fireplace, here’s how you can make it.

Now, what we realized is that one of us likes it more spicy and the other likes it more milky and sweet. We thought we would let you decide which one you would like to try out more.

Cook Time 10 minutes
Servings 2

Ingredients

Tea

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 black tea bags
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup

Latte

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • pinch cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring the water and the spices to a boil. You are going to want to whisk the spices in the water.

  2. Once the water boils, add the sugar, maple syrup and the tea bags. Turn off the heat and allow the tea to steep for 5 minutes.

  3. Remove the tea bags and strain the tea into a teapot.

  4. For the latte, use another saucepan and add the milk, cinnamon and maple syrup. Bring to a slight boil and then remove from heat.

  5. Using a frother (we used this one), froth the milk latte portion.

  6. Pour some of the tea in a cup and then top it off with the milk latte.

The sweet, milky option which is perfect if you want to fix up a quick tea before work is to add boiling water to a cup with a Twinings Chai tea bag and a tablespoon of sugar. In another mug, heat up half a cup of milk, a pinch of cinnamon and a tablespoon of pure maple syrup. (This is the latte portion of what is in the recipe above.) Froth the milk with a frother and mix the latte concoction with the tea. If it’s not sweet enough, feel free to add more sugar, and if you want it a little more spicy, add some more cinnamon and a little bit of ground ginger. You could also create the chai spice mix from the recipe above and use a pinch of that to add to this lazier version.

And if you are like us and prefer your drinks iced, refrigerate the chai tea latte overnight and when you are ready to drink it, add some ice cubes to it and you’re ready to go!
